Now it is a lot less certain.
The Kees easily accounted for Saturday's grand final opponent Harrow-Balmoral in two home and away matches.
Kalkee won by 20 and 17 goals on their way to the minor premiership.
However, any ideas of an easy path through the finals were dispelled by Harrow-Balmoral in the second semi-final two weeks ago.
The Roos led by four goals at half-time and ended up losing by only two.
Harrow-Balmoral coach Alice Langley said the inclusion of talented goal shooter Josie Webb against the Bombers in the semi-final helped close the gap.
“I know we’re going to have to work really hard for this one,” she said.
“The Kalkee girls are pretty young and fit.
“I was impressed with our defensive pressure in the preliminary final against Laharum so we need that full-court pressure again.”
Kalkee coach Billie Bibby said her young side, comprising several 17 and under players, had a big opportunity.
“I think there were some nerves in the semi-final,” she said.
“It has been good for the girls to get exposure at senior level along with playing 17 and under, and Emma Bigham winning the best and fairest showed that.”
