BUSINESS owners in Laharum are encouraging people to explore the "undiscovered" western side of the Grampians, showcasing rich produce and nature that is often overlooked.

The Laharum district, half-an-hour from Horsham, is home to many unique Grampians experiences - foremost of which is the Mount Stapylton and Mount Zero ranges.
Nestled at the bottom of the ranges is Mount Stapylton Vineyard, a former soldier settlement and farming estate turned award-winning wine producing operation.
The vineyard was established in 2002 and new owners, the Staehr Family, celebrated their first vintage in 2018.
Viticulturist Robert Staehr, along with his parents, run the vineyard alongside their mixed farming enterprise.
Robert's mother Mary Staehr said she wanted to share the natural beauty of the north-west Grampians, which her family has been familiar with for generations.

"In some respects we are an undiscovered side of the Grampians. When people say the Grampians and wine they really think about the Melbourne side of the Grampians," she said.
"People don't realise the Grampians are like a door. You have the front of the door, and we are the back.
"You've got the Grampians Olive Co, fantastic mountain ranges, caves, rock art - most people go as far as Halls Gap, but they don't really venture over to our side of the mountain range."
The Mount Staplyton Vineyard produces single-vineyard small batch wines which are hand plunged in small open-top fermenters. These subtle nuances deliver a full- bodied style wine with a generous ripe nose, in typical Grampians elegance.
Their range of wines are on the menu at baa3400, Pre Mix King, Wander Inn Wartook, and Halls Gap Tavern.
The vineyard is also five minutes from Grampians Olive Co, and 10 minutes from the Wander Inn, Wartook.
Ms Staehr encouraged people to come to Laharum and see what the lesser-explored side of the Grampians had to offer.
"We have got great trails, great views and fantastic farming enterprises that have been here for a long time," she said.
"Mount Staplyton is so close to Horsham, so accessible, and people don't know what is in their back door."
