Acting Senior Sergeant Simon Grant, the Road Policing manager across the Western Policing Division, said there was two serious incidents on the roads this weekend due to driver distraction.
"We recorded two serious injury collisions across the long weekend period," he said.
"One was related to an off-road motorcycle incident.
"The other was a collision at Sheep Hills."
IN OTHER NEWS:
One of the most serious incidents was a collision at Sheep Hills on Friday, June 11, where a driver failed to give way due to being distracted and collided with another vehicle.
A woman was seriously injured and airlifted to the Alfred Hospital.
The collision caused the car to roll.
"Both drivers were issued with infringement notices," Acting Senior Sergeant Grant said.
"Driver distraction was featured in that collision which is what we were aiming to drive down."
Driver distraction can include using a mobile phone, talking to passengers or what's going on outside the vehicle.
"The driver of the vehicle was distracted by the silos and went through a give way sign which lead to the collision," Acting Senior Sergeant Grant said.
"That intersection is not very busy at all, there may have only been a handful of vehicles go through that intersection for that whole day but it just takes that split section where you take your eyes off the road and what's going in around you and tragedy can unfold."
There were 40 speeding offences across Northern Grampians and Horsham out of a total of 58 incidents throughout the long weekend operation.
"We were overall pleased with driver behaviour," Acting Senior Sergeant said.
"One of the drivers behind low vehicle numbers on the road was restrictions from Melbourne preventing people from Greater Melbourne entering the regions.
"We did notice a significant decrease in vehicles compared to other long weekends."
