After winning the first three rounds, the two finalists, Kerrin Smith and Trudy Parker played a close match, with the lead fluctuating on both the front and back nines.
Kerrin came home strongly on the 17th and 18th hole to secure an even square result and then continued her good form on the 19th hole (1st hole) to win one up.
Maisie Phillips was a great contributor to women's golf at club, district and state levels. She was a wonderful mentor to those who knew her and played golf with her. She joined HGC in 1956 and became a life member in 1988.

Phillips was on the Ladies' Committee for 19 years, serving as both captain and president and was club champion seven times, achieving a low handicap of six.
She was a WDLGA member for 24 years with a life membership given to her in 1986. She was involved with the development of junior golf in the district alongside Joyce Mills and she captained the Wimmera Country Teams for many years. She was also a VLGU councillor for 18 years (before it became Golf Victoria) and was country vice president for seven years.
Phillips was instrumental in the organisation of some of Horsham Golf Club's major events, including The Nell Smithett in 1970, The Life Members event in 1990 and the Singles Knockout which was renamed in her honour in 2004.
