Charlie Ferrier was elected as the group's chair at an annual general meeting, held via Zoom the past week. Mr Ferrier replaces outgoing chair Kelvin Moar.
Mr Ferrier has lived in Kaniva for 10 years, during which he served as president of the town's Rotary Club.
Retired, Mr Ferrier spends his time dedicated to volunteer work, such as the town's meals on wheels program, volunteer bus service, and community taxi.
He said he believed 2021 to be a 'pivotal' year for Kaniva, and hoped to strengthen the progress association's community ties.

"We are going to look at the organisation's strengths and weaknesses and the opportunities for the future, and try to add some value to the community. That is it in a nutshell," he said.
"One of the things we do want to achieve is strengthen our ties to the community, and represent the community and business in the town. Strengthen our relationship with the West Wimmera Shire."
Mr Ferrier said he hoped he could live up to his predecessor's history of community advocacy.
"It is about promoting the town, and seeking out opportunities for improvement, supporting business," he said.
"I am looking forward to the challenge. There is a lot I think we can do. There is a lot that has been done. KDPA has had quite a successful run so far so it will be hard to live up to some of the past chairpersons, but we'll try."
The 2020 - 21 period saw the Kaniva and District Progress Association finish with 28 members due to a successful membership drive.
West Wimmera Shire Council also increased the group's annual allocation from $2500 to $4000.
The progress association received a grant of $9,294 from the Federal Government to provide digital and accessible connectivity. The money paid for an updated touchscreen, and digital licensing to run games, tours, QR codes and meetings via zoom.
