THE NAME sounds like a transformer, but a 'glass crusher' is vital to glass recycling.

Glass recycling is a key component of the new Victorian Government standardised household waste and recycling services.
Yarriambiack Shire Council has announced a glass collection system will be implemented, commencing in July 2022.
"The glass collection service is a positive move for council. Glass can often be broken in the current co-mingled recycling bins, contaminating the entire bin," Yarriambiack Shire Council Mayor Cr Graeme Massey said.
A separate 120L glass collection bin (purple lid) will be provided to each household and business premises that currently have comingled recyclable bin (yellow lid) from July 1, 2022. The glass drop-off facility will be available at each of the transfer stations to allow for those residents that do not currently have kerbside collection.
IN OTHER NEWS:
The two recycling bins, glass bin (purple lid) and comingled recycling (yellow lid) will be collected on alternating fortnight, meaning the glass bin will be picked up once a month, and the combined recycling will be collected once a month.
A recent bin audit data suggested that those collection frequency should be sufficient to cater current demand.
"By collecting glass separately, we are taking an extra step to ensure all of our recyclable items are properly recycled and our efforts are productive," Cr Massey said.
"Glass produced from recycled glass reduces the related air pollution by 20 per cent and related water pollution by 50 per cent. Recycled glass is used to make bottles and jars. Council will be using locally acquired recycled glass as a pavement material, using the glass crusher".
Yarriambiack Council recently received $433,000 from the competitive Victorian Government's Transfer Station Upgrade Fund to upgrade all of the council's transfer stations to establish the glass drop-off points.
They were also awarded $175,000 through Victorian Government's Recycling Victoria Council Fund for purchase of Mobile Glass Crushing Machine that will be shared by the five councils in the region. This funding program was competitive and required a 1:1 funding match by the collaborating councils.
