Wimmera testing facility conducts almost 1500 COVID-19 tests in July 2021

The testing clinic, located on Read Street, tested 1496 people, which is the highest monthly figure since the start of the pandemic in March 2020 and more than double the tests performed in June 2021.

A spokesperson said though the clinic witnessed a significant amount of people lineup for COVID-19 testing, staff and patients were well managed.

"Staff were supported with extra team members allocated during the busiest days which were mainly July 15 to July 23," they said.

"We remained open past the midday closing time on most days to ensure everyone who lined up before midday still got tested. That policy remains still"

The busiest day was Thursday July 22 with 142 tests.

"The winter is always going to be busier because it is the time for colds and sore throats so the community is being cautious which is exactly what we want people to be," the spokesperson said.

"July was also a period of outbreaks in NSW, VIC and SA. The majority of people who tested on the big number days toward the end of the month were mainly people with a connection to an outbreak area or travelling to and from SA.

"A lot of people are also testing because it is a requirement for a border permit to get in and out of SA. Interstate transport operators are also undergoing regular tests to ensure they can continue their work."

August remained steady with testing numbers, consistently between 38 and 54 tests per day.

The highest day for testing in August so far was Monday, August 9 with 72 tests, the lowest was two days later at 36.

The testing clinic is open from 9am to midday everyday, there is no need to book.
