Edenhope Tourism and Information president, Helen Mulraney-Roll says the Edenhope community is hopeful for summer with the announcement of Lake Wallace being reopened.
After almost five months of closure due to water quality, the water had been deemed safe.
Ms Mulraney-Roll said with the lake opening again, it will be great for tourists to come.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Ms Mulraney-Roll said Edenhope would normally receive tourists coming across the South Australian border for fishing.
"We probably won't get anybody at the moment because of COVID-19," she said.
Ms Mulraney-Roll said what the community wanted to see was their fishing competition which was normally run in November.
"We haven't had that for two years," she said.
The lake is a point of pride for Edenhope residents.
"It's a beautiful lake," Ms Mulraney-Roll said.
"We often see people walking around the lake. It's a good drawcard."
GWMWater managing director Mark Williams said as the amount of water in Lake Wallace had increased following recent rainfall, sampling indicated water quality had improved.
"The July samples suggest that any potential water issues that may have been present in March are now considered low risk due to the overall improvement of water quality," he said.
Mr Williams explained the latest laboratory results indicate algal levels are within acceptable levels.
Signs surrounding the lake were removed on Friday, August 13.
GWMWater will continue regular monitoring of the lake and continue to inform the community of the water quality.
