Mahoney, who was vice president in 2020, replaces the outgoing Chris Hopper.
Despite the constant uncertainty surrounding COVID-19, Mahoney was optimistic ahead of the new season.
"Every season's tough anyway, there's always going to be something thrown at you," Mahoney said.

"We obviously had COVID last year so it's not as if we're going in blind or anything like that. we learned a lot from last year and we've already had discussions with the new board about things we can try this year.
"I think it's a bit like life in general, it's about being adaptable at the moment and doing what we can do."
Mahoney will be joined on the board by Travis Hair (vice president), Marc Thomas (treasurer), Josh Miller (secretary) and Andrew Sostheim (general member).
"We've got a good group of cricket people there," Mahoney said.
"I think it's a good mix to hopefully get some good things done for the Horsham Cricket Association."

Mahoney also told the Wimmera Mail-Times that there were plans for senior representative cricket to return to Horsham.
The HCA played one game against the Grampians Cricket Assocation last season, while another planned outing against the Warrnambool and District Cricket Assocation was cancelled due to February's snap lockdown.
"The Western Waves are organising some interleague matches for seniors and over 40s," Mahoney said.
"We (Horsham) will be playing against Hamilton and Wimmera Mallee. There could be juniors there and years down the track we're looking at getting women's sides together for that as well."
