A Queensland man is currently assisting police following a single-vehicle crash on the outskirts of Ararat on Sunday afternoon.

According to a spokesman for Victoria Police, police initially noticed a black sedan with South Australian registration plates travelling at high speed along the Western Highway near Pink Lake about 2.15pm.
"The vehicle was not pursued, however police attempted use stop sticks on the vehicle but were unsuccessful," the spokesman said.
"The vehicle was then spotted on the Western Highway near Ararat about 3.15pm. Police again attempted to use stop sticks but were again unsuccessful.
"A short time later the driver lost control of the car which left the road and crashed into a tree."
The 35-year-old was arrested at the scene and did not suffer any injuries, the spokesman said.
