More than 8000 of the fish will be released into 25 western Victorian lakes, including Lake Marma, Nhill Lake, Minyip Wetlands and Cato Lake.
The stockings are part of a Victorian Fisheries Authority goal to stock 10 million fish this year, funded by recreational fishing fees and Go Fishing Victoria.
Minister for Fishing and Boating Melissa Horne said rainbow trout were a great option for children as they were relatively easy to catch and take a range of bait options.
"These school holiday stockings are part of our ongoing focus to deliver a record number of fish to our waterways in 2021, and get more Victorians fishing, more often," she said.
"Family fishing lakes are a wonderful option because they combine good facilities with safe access and stocked fish that are relatively easy to catch by anglers of all ages and skill levels."
A daily bag limit of five trout applies to family fishing lakes, of which only two trout can exceed 35 centimetres.
