Beetanicals, and their honey-based skin products, were recognised with gold in the rural and regional business category.

Beetanicals' Tanya Stanley, who runs the business with husband Warren, said it was a shock to win, but it was a moment to savour.

"I was watching it live and was completely overjoyed to hear that we won," she said.

"I shared the moment with our little boys, which was great."

Fittingly, It was one of Ms Stanley's son's that was the inspiration behind Beetanicals.

"It came about in 2015 when our son was only a baby and suffered from a skin condition."

"We were searching around for products, and realized 'hang on,' we're a third-generation beekeeping family, we've got Manuka honey & beeswax!'"

Ms Stanley said the award recognised the work that had gone in to grow their family business to where it was.

"It's a really good feeling and the rural and regional aspect of the award meant a lot," she said.

"Rather than just a product-based award, it was actually more about our business and how we've created that from a small rural area."

"I'm just really proud of what we have achieved and overcome; just reaching a barrier and then finding a way around that to grow your business.

"We're always inspired by so many other rural businesses as well."

In a statement on Beetanicals Facebook page, Ms Stanley said she hoped to inspire other regional start-ups.

"We are only limited by the limitations we put on yourself; anything is possible with clear goals, specific actionable steps, and plenty of persistence," the statement read.

"There have been many challenges faced on our journey over the years, but these obstacles have taught us so much about business and ourselves along the way."

Speaking to the Mail-Times, Ms Stanley said the exposure from the award win will help Beetanicals continue to grow after a challenging couple of years.

"Ordinarily we'd try to reach more people through expos and trade shows, but the ones that we committed to, we couldn't go to, which is a hit for a small business."

According to Ms Stanley, the local support and word of mouth spread has been one of the main driver's behind the company's success.

"It's been incredible; what's helped us through this time is our local support getting behind us and sharing the products," she said.

"With any business, you can have quiet times. We have a lot of local support and that's continued around Australia as well.

"That's what's kept us going and thriving, which has been amazing."

An established online presence also helped during the pandemic when lockdowns limited where people could shop.

"We're really lucky to already have an established online presence, local stockists and the like will support us through our website," Ms Stanley said.

"We've been really fortunate and we hope our products will help support many families in years to come."
