Doyle, who spent 3 seasons in the VFA with Port Melbourne, will return to the Horsham District League after finishing his playing career at Laharum a decade ago.
The connections he made during this time were key to his taking on the coaching role, he said.
"I think the appeal for me is really just about that community spirit and Laharum exemplifies that.
"The quality of the people, the atmosphere, and the type of club that it is means I'm really excited to be able to lead them and hopefully develop their young list."

Doyle is well versed in coaching Wimmera football; during his nine years at the Horsham Saints he spent three as an assistant coach, before being promoted to senior coach.
Doyle kept the Horsham Saints in finals contention for both his years in the top job.
"In my first year we went from fifth to second, although the following year we dropped back to four," he said.
In 2003, Doyle was named as centre-half back in the Saints Team of the Decade, although he left in 2006.
"I went down to Hamilton for a year and coached down there for a year to help them out, and then I came back up to Laharum for three years to finish off my playing career."

According to Doyle, one of the factors that drew him to the role was the chance to foster the talent in a young list.
"That's one of my strengths; when I was at the Saints we had a bit of a transitional list, and I was able to get the time to play well with young players and a game plan that suited them."
"I bring a clear game plan, clear direction and a good environment for young footballers to learn to play different positions and how they feed into the wider team,"
Doyle said that having outgoing coach Shannon Argall remain on the playing list is a huge boost.

"Having Shannon still within the playing group is going to be an incredible bonus for me," he said.
As Laharum's coach, Argall guided the Demons to the 2015 HDFNL flag and was also an assistant for Laharum's 2013 premiership.
"Taking over someone who's had such successes in his career, it's just a very, very good luxury," Doyle said.
"He's really passionate and keen about helping to build the next group that'll hopefully bring some success to the club."
After coaching for 12 years, Argall stepped back due to time commitments and to spend more time with his young family.
