In a letter from the property owner, Derry Monoghan from Monaghan Unit Trust, they said the previous patchwork repair deteriorated quickly.
"This work only lasted for five loads of grain. This resulted in us having to change routes and enter directly onto the highway 2 kilometres north of Speed," they wrote.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"Unfortunately, due to the angle of the road, the view of the highway, and also the terrible condition of this road makes it very dangerous to pull on to the highway. We feel this is an accident waiting to happen, and consider it totally unacceptable. This is particularly distressing knowing carting grain along Cooks Road would mean all we need to do is cross over the Sunraysia Highway at Speed."
The recommendation for Yarriambiack Council was to upgrade Singletons Road and Cook Road intersections as per the intersection safety audit recommendations was passed.
The council's Operations Manager met with the customer to understand the issue and the requirements of a realignment of the intersection. Converting this Y intersection into a T intersection will significantly improve the safety of the intersection.
For the second recommendation, which was to deny the request to upgrade Cook Road as it fails to meet the adopted Road Management Plan and Road Hierarchy requirements, the council also carried this recommendation.
