Peter Krelle, 56, appeared before the Horsham Magistrates' Court on Monday, November 15, where he was found guilty to four charges, including owning a dog attack causing serious harm and having a dog at large between sunset and sunrise.
Krelle pleaded not guilty but was found guilty of the four charges on September 8.
On Sunday, March 22, 2020, the victim was going to church when the animals attacked them.
A 96-year-old victim had extensive injuries across their body and needed medical attention.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Hindmarsh Council officers undertook investigations into the incident and seized the dogs involved in the attack.
Due to the serious nature of the attack, the dogs were declared Dangerous Dogs, and Council prosecuted the owner of the animals through the Magistrates court.
Magistrate Felicity Broughton said the attack left the victim shaken and unable to make a statement to the police.
"It must have shaken (them) in terms of experience and confidence moving about the community..." Magistrate Broughton said.
The victim did give evidence which Magistrate Broughton noted as "traumatic."
Magistrate Broughton said the case against Krelle was "extremely strong."
She said that while it wasn't as serious as offences go, the impact was serious.
Krelle was placed on a 12-month good behaviour bond and ordered to pay back the costs of the dogs' impoundment.
The dogs were impounded for 330 days before they were euthanised.
Magistrate Broughton did note how distressing that was for Krelle, given that the animals were kept not just for breeding but family pets.
Krelle was ordered to pay Hindmarsh Shire Council $37,736.
