The Victorian government road rebuilding project will see 7.4 kilometres of road in the lead-up to the Horsham-Minyip Road intersection removed and replaced.
With harvest approaching, crews will work in a staged approach to reduce the impact of work on the flow of traffic on the road, which services more than 2300 drivers a day.
Initial works will focus on a 1.5-kilometre section of the highway south of the intersection before crews return to complete the remainder of the project in early 2022.

The project is expected to take around four months to complete, weather permitting.
Minister for Roads and Safety Ben Carroll said the project would improve community connections between outlying towns and Horsham.
"Farmers and freight operators play a crucial role in the economy of western Victoria and the state at large; that is why it is vital we continue to maintain our roads to ensure safer and more reliable journeys," he said.
"As part of our continued investment in upgrading and maintaining our regional road network, we're delivering safer, more efficient journeys for them and hundreds of thousands of Victorians."
