Each week, The Wimmera Mail-Times catches up with players of all different sporting codes from across the region.
This week the Mail-Times had a chat with Rup-Minyip Cricket Club's Brayden Ison.
On Saturday Ison was just filling in for the Blue Panthers A Grade side but made sure he was a positive presence to the side both on and off the field.
Over Winter Ison was a star goalkicker in the Wimmera Football Netball League for Minyip-Murtoa; he kicked 37 goals and tied for first position on the charts with Stawell's Cody Driscoll.
In 2022 however he will be plying his trade in the Horsham District Football Netball League, where he has signed for a promising Rupanyup side as a joint playing coach.
Alongside last year's HDFNL goalkicker - Rupanyup's other joint playing coach Jack Musgrove - the Panthers will no doubt give opposition defenders plenty of headaches in 2022.
What do you love about playing cricket?
Probably just the mateship and banter. Just getting around the boys, a bit of fun.
What's your role in the team?
Probably just getting the boys up and about and providing a bit of motivation.
Who's your favourite cricketer of all time?
Probably Adam Gilchrist, when he would open in the one-dayers.
What do you love about the Rup-Minyip cricket club?
It's a good bunch of young blokes that don't take it too seriously, that just like having a crack.
Who is your funniest teammate?
We'll go Spud (Daniel Schaper). Because he's colour blind, he gets his greens and his reds mixed up.
If you needed six runs off the last ball of an innings, which teammate are you backing to get you home?
Spud.
What is your favourite movie of all time?
Any comedy with Adam Sandler in it. Ones like Happy Gilmore.
It's a good bunch of young blokes that don't take it too seriously, that just like having a crack.
