Each week, The Wimmera Mail-Times catches up with players of all different sporting codes from across the region.
This week the Mail-Times had a chat with St Michael's Tennis Club's Chris Ellis.
Who's your favourite tennis player?
I would say Roger Federer, he's good to watch. He's got a complete game, from the baseline, serve, volley, he's just a naturally great tennis player. He's nearly forty and he's still playing, it's a great effort.
What style of tennis do you like playing?
I prefer to serve and volley. I like playing doubles with my teammates and serving and volleying.
What do you love about playing tennis for St Michael's?
I've been at St Michael's ever since I was a junior so yeah it's just my club. I've been president for I think it's 24 years now. We've got a good social bunch of people. I enjoy the social side of it. We've had a bit of success with some Pennant premierships and now it's more about enjoying it and having a beer afterwards. Working up a thirst.
Who's the best player you've played against?
Probably Dylan Emmerson and Steve Schultz. They're both great players and have great groundstrokes. They're very consistent and hit the ball heavy. They're just a bit too hard for me. They're good fellas too, so it's always good to try and lift your game a bit and step up.
What's your best tennis shot?
I'll say backhand volley.
Are you binging anything on Netflix at the moment?
I don't watch Netflix to be honest. I love my sport so I watch a lot of Fox Sports. I love my footy, basketball and cricket. Any sport on tv I love watching on Foxtel.
Did you watch the AFL Draft the other night?
Yeah I watched a bit of that. I'm a Bombers supporter and we got Ben Hobbs there so I'm looking forward to watching him progress and supporting him. It should be good.
