After going undefeated across the regular rounds, both Horsham and the Wimmera-Mallee were handed their first defeats of the Warrnambool Under 17s Country Week in the semi-finals on Thursday.

Up against Warrnambool Blue in their semi-final, Horsham was able to restrict the host side to 10-179 from 45.3 overs.
Xavier Bone was the standout with the ball for the visitors, picking up the figures of 4-29.
Number eight Warrnambool batter Jesse Mahony-Gilchrist proved to be a thorn in the side for Horsham, compiling an arguably match-winning 47 from just 46 balls.

In reply, Horsham lost regular wickets to be all out for 127; Joey Nagorcka top-scoring with a stoic 26 not out.
Extras also played their part in the result, with Horsham contributing 51 in their bowling innings, compared to Warrnambool Blue's 21.
In their semi-final against Warrnambool Gold, Wimmera-Mallee was up against it after the home side scored a mammoth 211 batting first.
That was mainly due to the work of Gold batters Flynn Wilkinson (103) and Ryan Lucas (49), who put on 113 for the fourth wicket before Lucas was run out by Will Burke.
Wickets were shared among the Wimmera-Mallee bowlers, with Jett Adams and Ty Colbert both finishing with two apiece.
With bat in hand Wimmera-Mallee came agonisingly close to reaching their target, but in the end, were dismissed 19 runs short.
Noah Berry (56) continued his sublime run of form with his third consecutive half-century, While Aaron Schofield (43) also batted nicely.
Unfortunately, Schofield, Berry and Colbert (16) all lost their wickets just as Gold's score was looking in danger.
As both Wimmera-Mallee and Horsham lost their semi-finals, an intriguing local derby was set up between the two sides for Friday, to decide who would finish third.
Batting first in the T20 match, Horsham could only muster 10/82 from 18.5 overs.
Will Drummond (19) and Xavier Bone (18) were the only players to get to double figures, as Wimmera-Mallee bowlers Schofield and Connor Lee claimed three wickets apiece.
Needing 83 to win, Wimmera-Mallee were looking comfortable at 0-29, before Connor Weidemann struck, bowling Hunter Connolly for 16.
When top-scorer Noah Berry fell for 17, Wimmera-Mallee were 3-57 still in the box seat.
After 15.2 overs the side was 9-81, needing one run to tie and two to win, while Horsham needed just the one wicket.
Will Marks 11 not out at the time, fought hard to get his side home but was trapped LBW off the bowling of Weidemann to mark the narrowest of victories for Horsham.

Weidemann and Jett Hopper were the best of the Horsham bowlers, both snaring two wickets each.
In the grand final match between Warrnambool Gold and Warrnambool Blue, the Gold team was triumphant by 32 runs, to take out the title.
The Under 13 Country Week tournament begins in Portland on Monday.
