One police officer had a swollen lip and scratches from Schmidt.
Schmidt said he thought the police officers on the scene were attacking his girlfriend.
On January 3, 2021, Schmidt was charged with the counts of assault of an emergency worker on duty and being drunk and disorderly in a public place.
Mr McNamara asked if Schmidt had a drinking problem. Schmidt replied he "rarely drank".
The Magistrate said he "didn't care" if Schmidt thought the police were attacking his girlfriend. It did not condone his behaviour.
Magistrate McNamara gave Schmidt a community service corrections order.
