At its latest meeting, Kaniva and District Progress Association decided to utilise an allocation of funding towards commercial quality solar Christmas lights for the four main trees lining the town's main street.

The idea being that these could be left on all year round to brighten the main street promoting a vibrant town by both day and night.

In addition it is hoped that this will further support hospitality businesses and accommodation operators that rely on night time patronage.

Kaniva and District Progress Association secretary Helen Hobbs asked the community to consider donating to the effort.

"It is an easy, do-able project, but I think it would make a huge difference to try and support the town's hospitality and accommodation industry," she said.

The total project cost is approximately $6,000 and exceeds KDPA's annual allocation towards town promotion of $4,000.

However, KDPA decided at its last meeting to contribute $3,000 to get two trees done to start with. T

he approvals for this project have now been received and KDPA is appealing to the general public and community groups to consider donating money towards this project.

KDPA member Warren Newton has kindly donated Red-tail Black Cockatoo prints and gift cards to help raise funds for this project.

They are available for purchase through the Purple Starfish. The CWA has donated $100 which will also be used towards this project.

A GoFundMe has also been established to help fund the project.
