During the first council meeting for 2022 on Wednesday, January 19, councillors approved the agreement application made by Haven Homes.
Yarriambiack Shire chief executive officer Jessie Holmes said the council are working to "tackle the housing crisis."
IN OTHER NEWS:
In October 2021, Council submitted a $2.8 million dollar Regional Infrastructure Fund Application for 14 dwellings across five townships and the outcome of this application remains unknown," Ms Holmes said.
"In recently received correspondence from the Housing Minister it would appear that the preferred State Government funding assistance for housing is through the State government Big Build Fund.
"In order to access the Big Build Fund, Council must partner with a registered housing authority to make an application."
Under this agreement, Haven Homes will manage the dwellings on behalf of council for a period of 20 years.
The application is for three one-bedroom dwellings and 22 two-bedroom dwellings across five sites.
These dwellings will be built across Woomelang, Hopetoun, Warracknabeal, Murtoa and Rupanyup on Council owned land if all are approved but this may change when funding outcome is made known.
Council approved a community consultation period for potential land in Rupanyup in late 2021.
