Horsham Lawn join Central Park at top
Horsham Lawn won their fifth match of the season and have joined Central Park on top of the Central Wimmera Tennis Association ladder following a thrilling 8-6 win over Drung South at Drung South.
Lawn got off to a great start in the doubles, taking an early 3-1 lead through Lachlan Punchard and Joel Boyd defeating Logan Casey and Dale Schmid 8-5, Emma Streeter and Cherie Wood defeating Marli Pymer and Yolly Molineaux 8-2, and Graeme Wood and Andrew Dorman defeating Matt Hill and Harrison Daniell 8-5. Drung South's win came through Hayley Reid, and Sandra Casey defeated Ella Thompson and Lydi Boyd 8-2.
Lawn kept their two-set lead following the four singles sets. Their wins came through Graeme Wood defeating Harrison Daniell 8-2 and Cherie Wood defeating Yolly Molineaux 8-2. For Drung South, Hayley Reid defeated Ella Thompson 8-7, and Logan Casey defeated Lachlan Punchard 8-3.
The lead remained the same after the next four doubles, with both clubs taking two sets each. Drung South's wins came through Marli Pymer and Sandra Casey defeating Emma Streeter and Lydi Boyd 8-5 and Logan Casey and Matthew Hill defeating Lachlan Punchard and Andrew Dorman 8-3.
Lawn's wins came from Lydi Boyd and Cherie Wood, who defeated Sandra Casey and Yolly Molineaux 8-5, and Joel Boyd and Andrew Dorman, who defeated Dale Schmid and Matt Hill 8-5.
In the last two doubles sets, Hayley Reid and Marli Pymer defeated Ella Thompson and Emma Streter 8-3 to give Drung South hope, but Graeme Wood and Joel Boyd finished it off for Horsham Lawn, defeating Harrison Daniell and Dale Schmid 8-4.
At Coughlin Park, St Michaels had a handy 10-4 win over Kalkee.
They took a 3-1 lead after the doubles sets. Their wins came through Steve Schultz and Chris Ellis, who defeated Jordan Friberg and Aiden Richardson 8-7; Mia Rees and Jess Cannane, who defeated Meaghan Pohlner and Emily Polack 8-2; and Kassie Peachey and Barb Crough, who defeated Anna Exell and Keeley Schultz 8-7. Kalkee's win came through Luke Byrne and Jeff Friberg, who defeated Peter Hayes and Joel Rees 8-4.
St Michaels then won all four singles sets to take a commanding 7-1 lead into the last six doubles sets. Steve Schultz defeated Jordan Friberg 8-6, Peter Hayes defeated Jeff Friberg 8-5, Mia Rees defeated Meaghan Pohlner 8-5, and Kassie Peachey defeated Anna Exell 8-4.
In the last six doubles sets, St Michaels claimed three. Barb Crough and Jess Cannane defeated Emily Polack and Keeley Schultz 8-2, Mia Rees and Barb Crough defeated Meaghan Pohlner and Kelley Schultz 8-6, and Peter Hayes and Chris Ellis defeated Aiden Richardson and Jeff Friberg 8-7.
Kalkee's three wins came through Aiden Richardson and Luke Byrne, who defeated Chris Ellis and Joel Rees 8-3; Jeff Friberg and Luke Byrne, who defeated Joel Rees and Dan Rogers 8-5; and Anna Exell and Emily Polack, who defeated Kassie Peachey and Jess Cannane 8-5.
