Badge Week is Legacy's major yearly fundraiser throughout Australia. It commences Sunday, September 1, and ends Saturday, September 7.

Legacy supports families in need, and all money collected in the region will support families locally.

The Wimmera Branch of Melbourne Legacy will collect money during Legacy Week at the following collection points.

  • Buloke Shire collection points in Birchip and Donald.,

  • Hindmarsh Shire collection points in Dimboola, Nhill and Rainbow

  • Horsham Rural City Council at Horsham Plaza from Monday to Saturday, Horsham Post Office on Friday and Natimuk. Yarriambiack Shire: collection points at Hopetoun and Warracknabeal.

The former Wimmera Legacy Club is now a branch of Melbourne Legacy, but all money raised will stay within the wider Wimmera area.

Wimmera Legatees offer continued support for about 70 surviving widows living in the area, which covers the four municipalities named.

Legatees support widows through visitation, remembering birthdays and giving gifts at Christmas.

Where possible, Legacy can also offer assistance and financial support to widows.

Wimmera Legacy has 31 members, and this year is the Centenary of Legacy.

A promise - "look after  the missus and kids"

Legacy has promised to help veterans' families carry on with their lives after the loss or injury of their loved ones since 1923 and live by the following statement.

" Legacy has kept the simple promise until today, providing the same stability, guidance, and assistance that a partner would normally provide to his or her family.

"Currently, Legacy supports 34,000 partners and children of veterans who gave their lives or health serving their country.

"Legacy's work can mean a child gets an education and a fair go, a widow is not disadvantaged and alone, and a family is not torn apart by the effects of post-traumatic stress or other psychological injuries.

"Since a soldier made the Legacy promise to his dying mate in the trenches of WWI to "look after the missus and the kids," Legacy has supported Australian Defence Force families in times of great need."
