Ilze Van Zyl made her A-grade debut this year for Rupanyup in the Horsham District Football Netball League. She was consistent in the 15-and-under, shooting 480 goals in 17 games, and also in the B-grade, scoring 326 in 15 games.

Van Zyl was part of Rupanyup's 15-and-under premiership against Kalkee and was awarded best on the court.

Van Zyl said it was exciting when she got the notification she was in the Academy.

"It felt pretty real, and I was excited. It was a good feeling," Van Zyl said.

"I was surprised as well. It wasn't easy to get into, so it's exciting.

"There were many people and some tough competition, and some of those girls who tried out had amazing skills and abilities.

"Getting that experience from experienced coaches and being able to learn is huge."

As for 2025, Van Zyl wants to keep improving.

"I just want to keep shooting my goals, stay fit and be a good team player," Van Zyl said.

"I will push hard to play my best wherever Rupanyup plays me. Whenever they need me, I'll play."

On the weekend, Van Zyl was part of Volleyball Horsham's under-16 silver medal team at the Volleyball Victoria junior open.

"It was terrific, and it was our first big tournament as a team," Van Zyl said.

"We played mostly against Melbourne and the city teams, so getting second in that was crazy. All the girls were just happy we were there."
