A WIMMERA man has been handed a fine after driving without an alcohol interlock, despite having an interlock condition placed on his licence.

Thomas Dettmer, 41, faced the Horsham Magistrates' Court via video link on Monday, pleading guilty to breaching his alcohol interlock condition and driving an unregistered vehicle.
At 3.45pm on April 8, 2020, Dettmer was intercepted by police travelling east on McLachlan Street.

Upon providing his licence, officers discovered Dettmer had an alcohol interlock condition on his licence and was driving a car that had been unregistered since 2017.
Dettmer told the court his licence was necessary as he was looking for work, and his house had burnt down six months ago.
Magistrate Tim Walsh handed down a $400 fine.
