Yarriambiack Shire Council received a report on the request for an upgrade to Cook Road in Speed.
The request asked for an upgrade to Cook Road for all-weather access between Singletons Road and Sunraysia Highway, covering 1.5 kilometres.
The road is currently classified as a secondary access road with "formation only" construction and is inspected upon request only.
IN OTHER NEWS:
The upgrade of this section will need an initial investment of around $45,000 and ongoing maintenance costs for grading and cyclic gravel resheeting.
The report also included four proposed options for the upgrade.
Yarriambiack Shire Council's director of assets and operations, Michael Evans, said the resident sent the request in May this year and cited safety concerns in the request.
He recommended that the council defer a decision on the submitted request until after the Road Hierarchy review community consultation has been completed and undertake a safety assessment on Cook Road/ Sunraysia Hwy and Singletons Road/Sunraysia Hwy intersections.
Yarriambiack Shire councillors voted to support the recommendation.
Councillors also approved an upgrade of Lalor Street in Beulah.
The report included approval to upgrade sections of Lalor Street, Beulah between Deakin streets, and to access Beulah Caravan Park to provide improved access to the Caravan Park.
The proposal is to upgrade the road to a sealed status and lift the hierarchy from secondary access to primary access.
Yarriambiack Shire Council approved an initial investment of $46,000 and approved the reclassification.
