The 2021 Hindmarsh Shire Desert Enduro was scheduled to occur on September 25 to 26 and was already postponed from its original date in August this year.
Victorian Off Road Racing Association president Tony Carabott said the decision came to cancel the event altogether as border restrictions and health advice made planning impossible.
"We have taken into consideration the local Rainbow community and the quality of people visiting and volunteering from all over Australia, it is not an ideal situation," he said.

"This concern has also been raised by the local health specialists, regarding community safety, and the impact on the local aging community and local businesses."
This year's Rainbow Desert Enduro was set to feature a record field of 77 competitors.
Mr Carabott said off road racing would return to the Wimmera in 2022, with the Rainbow Rises 240 event scheduled for March 2022.
"We would like to thank all those who have taken time to contribute to the organising and planning of the event, these include community members, officials, club members, sponsors, and the local Rainbow community," he said.
