Harcourts Horsham sells Horsham West allotments at competitive auction

More than 100 people attended Saturday's auction at the Jenkinson Estate, comprising of seven allotments in Dumesny Street and 11 allotments in Stephens Street.

Harcourts Horsham auctioneer Tim Coller said it was the second time in two months the company has used the declared reserve auction format as a way to ensure that all interested buyers had the opportunity to buy an allotment in a very competitive market.

"I was pleased that the developers supported our proposal to use the declared auction format this time to sell their allotments as we believed it was the only fair and transparent way to give every buyer the same opportunity to purchase the allotment of their choice," he said.

"We had a list of over 60 prospective purchasers on our database for these allotments so we knew we had to move away from the old "first in best dressed" way of releasing subdivisions to the market to give everyone an equal opportunity.

"We have recently seen the demand for building allotments reach an all time high due to a lack of supply caused by low interest rates, government incentive schemes targeting building and a severe shortage of established homes on the market."

All the allotments offered underground electricity, reticulated sewerage, mains water, gas and nbn available for connection.

Mr Coller said that the successful buyers were a mix of first home buyers, families and investors attracted to the Jenkinson Estate because of its location close to the Green Leaves Early Learning Centre, Horsham West Primary Schools, Horsham College and the Federation University campus.

He also said the developers of the land were working with contractors and the Horsham Rural City Council to make more allotments available in mid 2022 to meet the current demand.
